official announcement: smallworld disassociates from GameOn: A Sports Podcast For Everyone

(and it’s not because we switched to lowercase titles)

First off, for those who did not know, smallworld has been releasing a weekly podcast in addition to blog content for the past few months as a part of a podcast network known as GameOn.

Donnie, the wonderful man at the helm of GameOn, has been editing, posting, and doing pretty much all the other behind-the-scenes work to make that podcast possible.

He and my fellow podders at GameOn have been quietly building something really special, and they’re getting ready to take some major steps forward and jump into a more professional setup.

I’m in full support of their decision and feel like it’s exactly the right timing for GameOn to grow. That being said, it’s also the right timing for smallworld to become separate.

Simply put, smallworld isn’t the right fit for an all-round sports podcast. It’s a media outlet that’s growing in its own way and hinges on its niche status.

When people see smallworld soccer, I want them to see the lower-league clubs we feature, the people making this community what it is, the competitions that bring us the excitement we crave on the pitch.

In order to do that as best as possible, I’ve decided after plenty of conversation with Donnie that it’s time to make smallworld a fully separate podcast.

It was a pleasure to have smallworld soccer report on our network. I’m excited you are still a part of the GameOn family!

This does NOT mean, however, that smallworld soccer report is going away!

The podcast will continue on, just under smallworld’s very own Anchor setup. You can find our new podcast home right here on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3opt0cKYzJGieBDoUQ73oV

Moreover, I’ll still be supporting GameOn personally, though separate from smallworld. I’m still a part of their MLS YouTube show, and I’ll always be a huge fan of what GameOn is doing.

All in all, this is one of many cool steps smallworld is making to become better. Believe me when I say this is not the last announcement you’ll hear from us in the next few weeks!

Thanks to everyone for all your support as always, and a special thanks to Donnie for believing in my potential to run a podcast. He’s a model guy and a fantastic podcaster himself!

Stay weird and support local soccer!

Blessings,

Danny

danny kotula is an aspiring sports writer and play-by-play commentator. unfortunately, he is not good at either one. his interests include watching soccer and listening to obscure music genres, and those aren’t even his most boring ones. he was born in Tacoma, Washington but has called South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, California, Georgia, and Costa Rica home over the course of his life. he generally knows where to put a comma, which is by far his most redeeming quality. he is writing this in third person as if he were famous enough for someone to write him a biography, but don’t be fooled. he’s not famous.
