official announcement: the gigantic grassroots grammar challenge

We said there would be more announcements when we told you about our disassociation from GameOn. Hope you didn’t doubt us.

Today, there’s a cool new challenge being launched. smallworld soccer is putting its money where its hypothetical mouth is. Except we actually don’t want to, in a convoluted way.

I’ll just explain what I mean. The challenge is for anyone who reads smallworld’s blog to find a grammatical error in any of our future posts.

If you find a valid mistake, point it out to me, and I agree that it was not purposeful, I’ll buy a jersey from the club of your choice. It’s (pretty much) that simple.

Let’s go over a few rules, though:

1. One prize per individual/account/organization/club/entity. Once you’ve found one error and I’ve validated it, you can’t win again on that post or any other post.
2. One winner per error. If someone else finds the same error before you do, you’re out of luck!
3. Only posts released after this one are eligible. We’re focused on the here and now!
4. The club you choose must compete (or have competed) in an American soccer league lower than Major League Soccer. Professional clubs are eligible, but they cannot reside at the highest level of US Soccer.
5. The club you choose must have a jersey option under $100. Have mercy I’m a college student please and thank you.
6. Two winners per post. Really hope it doesn’t come to that, but if I make more than two valid errors that are spotted in a single post, only the first two will win.
7. This does NOT apply to any Spanish-language content. And yes, that’s a bit of a hint as to some other exciting news coming. But Spanish is not my first language and I can’t afford that.

So why exactly are we doing this? It feels like a perfect way to encourage both of the things smallworld exists to do, supporting local soccer and writing about it with professionalism and fun.

It’s a fun challenge for readers, an opportunity to make smallworld as professional as possible, and at the end of the day, it’ll help support lower-league soccer.

And with all the blog content coming out in the near future, opportunity will abound!
