LLeC – week 2 power rankings

Another week is in the books at the Lower League eCup, and we’re not lacking for exciting matchups and fierce group stage competition midway through the regular season.

There’s a lot of action to get to, so let’s get things off with the ever-exciting PC console in the Premier Division of play.

Premier Division

PC

Group A – We learned a lot more about these two PC groups this week, and if we didn’t know that Danubia was for real before, we certainly know that now. They got a 4-0 win over Oakland County and a further boost from their forfeit victory against Union Dubuque. That puts a lot of pressure on Dubuque to deliver in their one remaining match against Oakland County, as both those two sides are both still winless and will need three points plus some help to make it out of their group.

Group A Table:

  1. Danubia Men’s Elite, 6 pts, +9 GD
  2. Space United, 6 pts, +2 GD
  3. Oakland County, 0 pts, -5 GD
  4. Union Dubuque, 0 pts, -6 GD

Group A Predictions:

  1. Danubia Men’s Elite
  2. Space United
  3. Oakland County
  4. Union Dubuque

Group B – A lot of action took place in Group B, and so far, South Bend and Lansing are emerging victorious. Those two are still perfect after two matches each, and that’s enough to secure their places in the semifinal at the expense of Dutch Guard and Delaware. The only thing left to decide is who’s crowned champion of the group, which we’ll find out on January 30 when the league leaders go head to head.

Group B Table:

  1. South Bend Lions, 6 pts, +9 GD
  2. Lansing Common, 6 pts, +5 GD
  3. Dutch Guard, 6 pts, -7 GD
  4. Delaware Rising, 6 pts, -7 GD

Group B Predictions:

  1. South Bend Lions
  2. Lansing Common
  3. Delaware Rising
  4. Dutch Guard
Xbox

Group A – This group gave us one of the most exciting games of the regular season, as Delaware Rising and AFC Columbia fought to a 3-3 stalemate in a match that will likely see both those squads stay perfect throughout the group stage. Jacksonville Armada and Swan City Syndicate weren’t able to play their scheduled match, so they’ve both got two more matches coming up, two that they’ll need to win to earn a guaranteed postseason berth.

Group A Table:

  1. AFC Columbia, 4 pts, +5 GD
  2. Delaware Rising, 4 pts, +2 GD
  3. Jacksonville Armada, 0 pts, -2 GD
  4. Swan City Syndicate, 0 pts, -5 GD

Group A Predictions:

  1. AFC Columbia
  2. Delaware Rising
  3. Jacksonville Armada
  4. Swan City Syndicate

Group B – 1874 Northwich got a big win over Union Dubuque this week, putting them right in the mix for a playoff position. It’s still a tough ask, as they’ve got to get a result from their match next week with a good Hoboken side, but just being in the conversation is an improvement from last week’s 7-0 drubbing. DeKalb and Hoboken were off this week, the latter of whom really need a result against a tough DeKalb team. There’s a lot still to be decided here, as DeKalb seem like the only sure bet to progress.

Group B Table:

  1. DeKalb County United, 3 pts, +7 GD
  2. Union Dubuque, 3 pts, 0 GD
  3. 1874 Northwich, 3 pts, -6 GD
  4. Hoboken FC 1912, 0 pts, -1 GD

Group B Predictions:

  1. DeKalb County United
  2. Hoboken FC 1912
  3. Union Dubuque
  4. 1874 Northwich

Group C – Metro still don’t look as convincing as they did last year, but they’re finding ways to win. Their triumph over United Serbians clinches them a playoff spot, and Serbians also find themselves in a good position to progress. Danubia and Rebels FC played out a 2-4 result that put Rebels in a great position for a playoff spot alongside Metro, so the battle between them and United Serbians will be a crucial one. Due to goal difference, all Rebels need are a draw or a win.

Group C Table:

  1. Metro Louisville, 6 pts, +6 GD
  2. Rebels FC, 3 pts, 0 GD
  3. United Serbians SC, 3 pts, -2 GD
  4. Danubia Men’s Elite, 0 pts, -4 GD

Group C Predictions:

  1. Metro Louisville
  2. United Serbians
  3. Rebels FC
  4. Danubia Men’s Elite

Group D – Lansing continues to impress across the board. They still haven’t faced the feared Crows of Mpls City, but they’re already guaranteed a playoff berth in Year One on the Xbox side. That matchup with Minneapolis will be a great battle, while the sides destined for a quick end to the season (unless something crazy happens with goal differential), Oakland County and Dynamo St. Cloud, will look for a consolation result this week.

Group D Table:

  1. Minneapolis City SC, 6 pts, +12 GD
  2. Lansing Common FC, 6 pts, +6 GD
  3. Dynamo FC St. Cloud, 0 pts, -9 GD
  4. Oakland County FC, 0 pts, -9 GD

Group D Predictions:

  1. Minneapolis City SC
  2. Lansing Common FC
  3. Oakland County FC
  4. Dynamo FC St. Cloud

Group E – Lane United came up short against Tallahassee this week, and after only managing a draw against Hartford Athletic, they’re in real trouble with just the Mingos left to play. The aforementioned Madison had their Hartford match postponed, so they’ll have two to play this upcoming week to make sure they punch a ticket to the playoffs. Tallahassee, meanwhile, are now in good shape, already having played Forward Madison and sitting pretty in second place.

Group E Table:

  1. Forward Madison, 3 pts, +3 GD
  2. Lane United, 2 pts, 0 GD
  3. Hartford Athletic, 1 pt, 0 GD
  4. Tallahassee SC, 1 pt, -3 GD

Group E Predictions:

  1. Forward Madison
  2. Tallahassee SC
  3. Lane United
  4. Hartford Athletic

Group F – Elitists got a big win over Bateaux in a more metaphorical sense, while LA Krewe’s victory over Hayward United was big in a more easily visible way: they won 9-0. That destines Hayward for the basement of the group, and their derby game with Bateaux will be crucial for the Eau Claire side, who’ll be looking for a spot in the next round.

Group F Table:

  1. Elitists FC, 6 pts, +7 GD
  2. Louisiana Krewe, 4 pts, +9 GD
  3. Bateaux FC, 1 pt, -3 GD
  4. Hayward United FC, 0 pts, -13 GD

Group F Predictions:

  1. Elitists FC
  2. Louisiana Krewe
  3. Bateaux FC
  4. Hayward United FC

Group G – The Soccer Plug is the only team to have tied all of its matches so far, taking two points from two matches. This week’s draw was particularly impressive, as it came against Northshore United. The Louisiana outfit are still the most likely to win the group, but The Soccer Plug should finally get a win this week against Cultures United, and from there, it’ll all be about the result between the current top two, Northshore and Kirkland FC. Should be a fun finish here!

Group G Table:

  1. Northshore United, 4 pts, +5 GD
  2. Kirkland FC, 4 pts, +5 GD
  3. The Soccer Plug, 3 pts, 0 GD
  4. Cultures United FC, 0 pts, -10 GD

Group G Predictions:

  1. Northshore United
  2. The Soccer Plug
  3. Kirkland FC
  4. Cultures United FC

Group H – Lacey and Lone Star still have a battle for the top of the table coming which was postponed this week, but Inland Empire found their footing with a win over Vacaville that’s got them nipping at the heels of whoever slips in that contest. They’ve got a match with Lone Star coming up that won’t be easy, but they’ll need to get something out of it to guarantee themselves a spot in the next round. It’s more likely that the Gophers pull an upset and sneak into that second spot.

Group H Table:

  1. Inland Empire FC, 3 pts, +7 GD
  2. Lone Star Republic, 3 pts, +4 GD
  3. Lacey Pocket Gophers, 3 pts, +2 GD
  4. Vacaville Elite, 0 pts, -13 GD

Group H Predictions:

  1. Lone Star Republic
  2. Lacey Pocket Gophers
  3. Inland Empire FC
  4. Vacaville Elite

Group I – Sporting Arizona are the pleasant surprise of the Xbox side this year, beating LA Wolves and San Antonio Runners to cement their rightful place in the conversation for title contenders. They lead a dangerous group, but still haven’t played the most dangerous team in the group, Oxnard Guerreros. The Guerreros did fall to LA Wolves this week in a big upset, but I still think Oxnard will get the win this upcoming week and make sure they get into the next round. Meanwhile, the Wolves should take care of San Antonio Runners, which would create a potential deadlock at 6 apiece for the top three. If it does come down to goal differential, Arizona have the advantage right now, but LA could take control there with a big win against the easiest opposition in the group. Either way, all three should go through to the next round, and all three could cause damage in the playoffs.

Group I Table:

  1. Sporting Arizona, 6 pts, +5 GD
  2. Oxnard Guerreros, 3 pts, +4 GD
  3. LA Wolves, 3 pts, +1 GD
  4. San Antonio Runners, 0 pts, -10 GD

Group I Predictions:

  1. LA Wolves
  2. Oxnard Guerreros
  3. Sporting Arizona
  4. San Antonio Runners
PlayStation

Group A – Rebels continued in their winning ways, beating Danubia by just one goal. Meanwhile, Motown will have to wait to try and do the same after a postponed match against San Lee. Rebels are into the next round with their win, and all that’s left is for them to try and beat Motown for the Group A crown next week. Motown still have plenty to play for, since they’ve only played once so far and will need another win to feel comfortable about progressing.

Group A Table:

  1. Rebels SC, 6 pts, +2 GD
  2. FC Motown, 3 pts, +2 GD
  3. San Lee FC, 0 pts, -1 GD
  4. Danubia Men’s Elite, 0 pts, -3 GD

Group A Predictions:

  1. FC Motown
  2. Rebels SC
  3. Danubia Men’s Elite
  4. San Lee FC

Group B – Our very own Josh Ranft and our other very own Austin Robillard went at it this week, and Austin, who’s representing smallworld, beat Bateaux FC rep Josh and put smallworld in the driver’s seat of Group B. For Josh’s part, he’ll be looking for at least a draw to feel confident of his chances to progress to the knockouts. If he wins or draws, he’s in as the second seed. If he picks up a loss against Phil of Biscayne Bay, he’ll be playing with fate as the third seed, searching for a wild card entry. Of course, that’s all assuming that Biscayne beats TriSocPod this week, which is the most likely outcome. That would officially eliminate the podcasting group from North Carolina.

Group B Table:

  1. smallworld soccer, 6 pts, +7 GD
  2. Bateaux FC, 3 pts, +1 GD
  3. TriSocPod, 0 pts, -3 GD
  4. Biscayne Bay SC, 0 pts, -5 GD

Group B Predictions:

  1. smallworld soccer
  2. Biscayne Bay
  3. Bateaux FC
  4. TriSocPod

Group C – After Providence and La Barra dueled to a draw, they made quick work of their respective opponents, putting Delaware and Agema/SKADI in serious trouble in the process. They’ll both end up on one point each, most likely, and that will spell elimination for them both with almost 100% certainty. At the top of the table, it could well come down to goal differential for the first seed, where the Rogues are on top by just one.

Group C Table:

  1. Providence City FC, 4 pts, +5 GD
  2. La Barra 608, 4 pts, +4 GD
  3. Delaware Rising FC, 1 pt, -4 GD
  4. SKADI Soccer/Agema FC, 1 pt, -5 GD

Group C Predictions:

  1. Providence City FC
  2. La Barra 608
  3. SKADI Soccer/Agema FC
  4. Delaware Rising FC

Group D – Magic City and Brickyard are in great shape, both still without a loss for now. As many predicted, Connor from Brickyard isn’t having much trouble dispatching opponents. He technically didn’t get to beat the Switchbacks yet, since we don’t know that result as of release. He should handle Magic City this week as well, but it won’t be nearly as easy. Meanwhile, Colorado Springs and eUSL are seriously struggling, and they’ll both be hoping for a big win to get back in contention for a third-place playoff birth.

Group D Table:

  1. Magic City Brigade, 6 pts, +8 GD
  2. Brickyard Battalion, 3 pts, +5 GD
  3. Colorado Springs Switchbacks, 0 pts, -2 GD
  4. eUSL, 0 pts, -11 GD

Group D Predictions:

  1. Brickyard Battalion
  2. Magic City Brigade
  3. Colorado Springs Switchbacks
  4. eUSL

Group E – Steel FC is facing a fearsome doubleheader this week, taking on Group E rivals Lansing Common followed by Group F leaders in their crossover match 30 minutes later when they face unbeaten Black Rock SC. Lansing will have to play Group E leaders Sunflower State, so neither team has an easy road. Whoever gets more out of that two-game stretch, though, gets the reward of a playoff berth, so there’s plenty in the way of motivation. As for Sunflower State, the Kansas side are already through after two wins in as many matches.

Group E Table:

  1. Sunflower State FC, 6 pts, +4 GD
  2. Steel FC, 0 pts, -2 GD
  3. Lansing Common, 0 pts, -4 GD

Group E Predictions:

  1. Sunflower State FC
  2. Lansing Common
  3. Steel FC

Group F – Everything will be decided here in a couple days’ time, but what’s already decided is very little. Black Rock are in the best position, but they’ve got outside-of-group Steel FC to face before they can rest on their laurels. If they slip up, the winner of Oakland County v Hoboken will be ready to pounce and steal the top spot in the table. For Hoboken, anything short of a win in that match will see them finish third and likely go home.

Group F Table:

  1. Black Rock FC: 4 pts, +2 GD
  2. Oakland County FC: 3 pts, +3 GD
  3. Hoboken FC 1912: 1 pt, -2 GD

Group F Predictions:

  1. Black Rock FC
  2. Oakland County FC
  3. Hoboken FC 1912

Group G – This group of three was structured differently, given that they had no group to play crossover matches with. They’ve just been given forfeit wins of 5-0 whenever they’re scheduled an off week, so bearing that in mind, Greenville is actually finished with group stage play. They await the result of South Bend vs Armada to see who joins them in the next round, but because of this caveat, both of them are in good shape to progress as at least a wild card. Right now, South Bend has the edge after only getting beat by three (though only scoring one goal against legendary defensive unit Giovanny Cañas).

Group G Table:

  1. Greenville Triumph, 6 pts, +12 GD
  2. South Bend Lions, 3 pts, +2 GD
  3. Jacksonville Armada, 3 pts, +1 GD
  4. DROPPED OUT, 0 pts, -15 GD

Group G Predictions:

  1. Greenville Triumph
  2. South Bend Lions
  3. Jacksonville Armada

Group H – Harrington are in control here. They destroyed Louisville in round one, and their 4-1 victory over Space United was equally impressive. SUFC will feel bullish about their chances to advance, too, but they’ll need to finish the job against a subpar Louisville team to be sure of their advancement. We don’t know what happened between Louisville and San Fran, but if Space United can beat SF Metro this week, it won’t matter a whole lot.

Group H Table:

  1. FC Harrington, 6 pts, +15 GD
  2. Space United, 3 pts, -1 GD
  3. San Francisco Metro FC, 0 pts, -2 GD
  4. Louisville Lightning, 0 pts, -12 GD

Group H Predictions:

  1. FC Harrington
  2. Space United
  3. San Francisco Metro FC
  4. Louisville Lightning

Group I – Dynamo St. Cloud and Tulsa Athletic played out a great draw from a neutral perspective, and that means Cook Street gets rewarded for their win over Dubuque with an outside shot at reaching the top two. They’ll need to best Tulsa to do so, but they seem to have the quality to make that feasible. Meanwhile, Tulsa can clinch with anything but a loss, and Dynamo St. Cloud have the same charge. Union Dubuque are officially out of a top two spot, but they need a win desperately to stay eligible for a wild card spot. This group will be the first to be fully decided barring any postponements, finishing on the day of this article’s release, Monday the 25th.

Group I Table:

  1. Dynamo FC St. Cloud, 4 pts, +3 GD
  2. Tulsa Athletic, 4 pts, +3 GD
  3. Cook Street United FC, 3 pts, -2 GD
  4. Union Dubuque, 0 pts, -4 GD

Group I Predictions:

  1. Dynamo FC St. Cloud
  2. Tulsa Athletic
  3. Cook Street United
  4. Union Dubuque

Group J – AFC Mobile are in, and after a big win for Lone Star, they’re in good shape to join them. They’ve still got SPAM to either beat or tie to make sure they move forward, but the bigger predicament to be in is that of the Pocket Gophers. They lost by three to LSR, and that means they need all three points against Mobile in order to salvage something from the group stage. Anything less, and they likely won’t even have a shot at a third place wild card.

Group J Table:

  1. AFC Mobile, 6 pts, +3 GD
  2. Lone Star Republic, 3 pts, +2 GD
  3. SPAM FC, 1 pt, -2 GD
  4. Lacey Pocket Gophers, 1 pt, -3 GD

Group J Predictions:

  1. AFC Mobile
  2. Lone Star Republic
  3. SPAM FC
  4. Lacey Pocket Gophers

Group K – Cultures United are struggling, but Miracle Hill are having quite an opposite experience in Group K. They’ve got two wins from two games, and that means it’s essentially a matter of showing up for Inland Empire. They’re even on points with Peak XI, but the Utah club have to face Miracle Hill while IEFC gets the easiest matchup in the group. I expect the two California clubs to reach the playoffs here.

Group K Table:

  1. AC Miracle Hill, 6 pts, +6 GD
  2. Peak XI FC, 3 pts, +4 GD
  3. Inland Empire FC, 3 pts, 0 GD
  4. Cultures United FC, 0 pts, -10 GD

Group K Predictions:

  1. AC Miracle Hill
  2. Inland Empire FC
  3. Peak XI FC
  4. Cultures United FC

Group L – The City Legends are becoming legendary for all the wrong reasons, accruing a -11 goal differential in just two games. Oxnard Guerreros are on the other end of the table, while Vlora and Inland Empire are in the middle, right on the bubble. Vlora definitely has the more favorable matchup, taking on City Legends in a game that should earn them a playoff berth.

Group L Table:

  1. Oxnard Guerreros, 6 pts, +10 GD
  2. Vlora FC, 3 pts, +1 GD
  3. Inland Empire Republic, 3 pts, 0 GD
  4. City Legends FC, 0 pts, -11 GD

Group L Predictions:

  1. Oxnard Guerreros
  2. Vlora FC
  3. Inland Empire Republic
  4. City Legends FC

  1. Metro Louisville, 4 pts, +4 GD
  2. Peak XI FC, 3 pts, +1 GD
  3. LCFC II, 3 pts, 0 GD
  4. Winter Haven United, 0 pts, -5 GD

Group B Table:

  1. CS Montreal ’67, 6 pts, +11 GD
  2. LCFC II, 3 pts, 0 GD
  3. Hayward United, 3 pts, -1 GD
  4. eUSL, 0 pts, -10 GD

Group C Table:

  1. Tallahassee SC, 6 pts, +15 GD
  2. Jacksonville Armada, 3 pts, -2 GD
  3. Cook Street United FC, 1 pts, -1 GD

  1. LCFC II, 4 pts, +5 GD
  2. Swan City Syndicate, 0 pts, -5 GD
  3. Oly Town Artesians, 0 pts, -12 GD

Group A Table:

  1. Magic City Brigade, 6 pts, +4 GD
  2. Space United II, 1 pt, 0 GD
  3. Bell County FC, 1 pt, -3 GD
  4. TriSocPod, 0 pts, -1 GD

Group B Table:

  1. Oly Town Artesians, 4 pts, +9 GD
  2. Space United II, 4 pts, +7 GD
  3. The Red Watch, 3 pts, +3 GD
  4. Inter Philadelphia, 0 pts, -19 GD

Group C Table:

  1. Vlora FC, 4 pts, +5 GD
  2. La Barra 608, 1 pt, 0 GD
  3. eUSL, 1 pt, 0 GD
  4. Jacksonville Armada, 1 pt, -5 GD

Group D Table:

  1. eUSL II, 3 pts, +10 GD
  2. Metro Louisville, 0 pts, 0 GD
  3. Little Rock Rangers, 0 pts, 0 GD
  4. Space United II, 0 pts, -10 GD

That’s all we’ve got for this week! Check back next week for another faithful update with the final standings and a full picture of who’s moving on to the playoffs and whose eCup runs are getting cut short.

Stay weird and support local soccer!

Blessings,

Danny
